This week’s meme, brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish, is all about the top ten books we’re looking forward to reading in 2015. I feel like I’ve already talked about most of the books I’m wanting to read next year, so I decided to put a little twist on this week’s topic and make it:
Top Ten Films I’m Looking Forward to in 2015
Ok, this movie looks incredibly cheesy. And frankly, Richard Madden looks kinda creepy in his stills. But Claire Danes as Lady Tremaine?? Yes, please!
I enjoyed the Divergent series, but I liked the first movie even better, and that never happens. I’m hoping it continues to be that way with the movies. This movie comes out on my husband’s birthday; I hope he won’t mind dinner & a movie that night ;)
The Age of Adaline (April 28, 2015)
I haven’t heard much about this movie, honestly, but I love stories that involve aging (or in this case, the lack thereof). To me, it’s up there with time travel on the list of interesting sci-fi topics.
Avengers: The Age of Ultron (May 1, 2015)
The only thing I am not looking forward to about this movie is the lack of Loki (*cries*). Hopefully there will be plenty of Tony Stark-Thor banter to make up for Loki’s absence.
Jurassic World (June 12, 2015)
Do I even need to elaborate on this one? NO, but I’m going to anyway. How do I explain my love of Jurassic Park? If you know me in real life, you know I love all things dino, including dino DNA. I am upset that Sam Neill isn’t in this one (I love Dr. Grant), but Chris Pratt is leading so I think Jurassic World will be different, but just as entertaining as its predecessors.
Pixar rarely disappoints, and I don’t think that’ll happen with Inside Out either. The premise sounds amazing and it features the voice talents of Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black.
The Fantastic Four (August 7, 2015)
I know the first Fantastic Four series bombed, but I secretly liked it, probably just because I love super heroes and that was back in the early days of Marvel cinema. This new cast looks promising, so hopefully the movie is good!
The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (September 18, 2015)
I STILL have not read this series! But I did see James Dashner at YALL fest last month and I completely admired how funny and down to earth he is. I’ve been following his movie set photos on Twitter and I can’t wait to read the books and see the sequel next summer.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (November 20, 2015)
I haven’t even seen Mockingjay Part 1 yet (I knowww), but the final installment in the Hunger Games series is of course on my list of most anticipated 2015 movies. I’m prepared for the tears & the ending! I think so at least…
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (December 18, 2015)
You know when this movie comes out? The same day as my 3rd wedding anniversary. My husband has had our date night planned since they announced the release date nearly 2 years ago.
I know tons of fans are skeptical about JJ Abrams, but I am not. I loved his new Star Trek movies, even though they looked more like Star Wars, but that only helps his case.
BONUS
I obsessed over the Goosebumps books when I was in elementary school! Some of those stories still creep me out (Stay Out of the Basement? The Haunted Mask?). Hopefully this movie is just as scary! Or at least I hope it does the books justice.
What are some films and books you’re most looking forward to next year?
I love how you’ve tackled the list this week. I’m intrigued to see what the Insurgent movie is like. I’m also intrigued about Goosebumps. I loved those books when I was younger!
Goosebumps defines my childhood in some ways; all of my friends read those books growing up so it’s cool to see it coming back into the spotlight so many years later. I know there’s a tv series based on the books, and I’ve watched a few of them and enjoyed them :)
Age of Ultron: I needed that movie like yesterday. Cannot wait.
Mockingjay Part 2: After watching part one, yeah, you’ll definitely want part two!
Inside Out: How have I literally never heard anything about this before right now? I’ve been whining about Pixar making sequels and no one told me they had this going on! Also, who is in charge of marketing at Pixar these days?! They need to be advertising this!
Star Wars: Duh. I get the JJ complaints because he made Star Trek into more of an action movie (not to mention he blew up Vulcan, and alternate timeline or not, NOT COOL), BUT I do give him props for making it more accessible to non-Trekkies (at the time of release I wasn’t really one yet either, having only seen TOS). BUT George Lucas did a pretty good job of peeving his fans with the prequels, so I don’t know why people think JJ is going to do worse. He’s a talented storyteller and I have no doubt his sequels will be better than the prequels. Though I do understand the complaints from those who feel in love with the extended universe of the books, which were canon, and then JJ suddenly saying they weren’t so he could use the storyline he wanted. It won’t affect those of us who are only watching the movies, but that is kind of a low blow for those folks.
OK, I’m done being a nerd now. :)
Please don’t stop being a nerd! Your comment was amazing :)
I only heard about Inside Out because my husband always keeps me up to date on Disney/Pixar news, plus I follow the Disney blog and they post regularly about their new releases. There’s also a dinosaur Pixar movie coming out soon in case you’re interested :)
I agree about everything you said related to Star Wars, Star Trek, and JJ Abrams. If I was a hard core Trekkie I could totally understand being upset by the new films. But I’m not. I’ve only seen some of TOS, TNG, and Voyager and only watched a couple of the previous films after seeing the new ones (really because I wanted to compare Wrath of Khan with Into Darkness). As you can already tell, I’m super excited for JJ’s new series, and I have total faith we won’t have to worry about the same disappointments George Lucas produced with the prequels *coughJarJarcough*
Ha ha, oh Jar Jar. I will say I do like Into Darkness a lot more than Wrath of Khan, which is not a popular Trekkie opinion but Cumberbatch was so much more convincing for me!
He was much better than the other Khan. I couldn’t get over the other guy’s costume to be honest haha.
Age of Ultron is definitely up there as the movie I’m looking forward to the most next year…that and Minions, lol :D
I’m iffy on Cinderella, but I admit my curiosity was piqued after watching the trailer. But I miss Richard Madden’s beard; spent half the trailer wondering where the beard went :3
Minions was like #12 on my list! I had 4 other movies I wanted to talk about after making the Top Ten, so I just put Goosebumps as a bonus. I could have easily made a Top 20 out of this category.
Ohhhh, I love your little twist on the topic! :) Definitely looking forward to seeing Mockingjay (though I haven’t seen Catching Fire yet. I KNOW!!!) and Cinderella. I also haven’t seen Divergent yet (please don’t yell at me – I know I’m totally failing here!!) but I’m also excited to see Insurgent. Great topic and post! :)
Thanks!!
I won’t yell at you, don’t worry. I still haven’t seen Mockingjay Part 1. Catching Fire I saw opening day, but that’s because it’s my favorite book in the series and I couldn’t wait any longer before seeing it. Hope you like it and Divergent!!!
Ummm… a Goosebumps movie?! So cool! Jurassic World looks EPIC and Mockingjay part 2 ’nuff said! Great list!
Thanks!! 2015 is shaping up to be a good movie release year :)
