I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday post in forever! But this week’s topic really caught my fancy since over the past year I’ve read some pretty good books and I’ve highlighted a lot of funny, memorable, truth-filled, and heart breaking quotes.
These aren’t my absolute favorite quotes from these books, but I picked ones that stood out to me for one reason or another. For some of these books it was hard to pick just one quote to share!
Top Ten Quotes I Loved From Books I Read In The Past Year Or So
“Now they were as strangers; nay, worse than strangers, for they could never become acquainted. It was a perpetual estrangement.”
“You’re stronger than you believe. Don’t let your fear own you. Own yourself.”
“All major changes are like death. You can’t see to the other side until you are there.”
“All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does, and that is his.”
It was hard to pick just one from this book!:
“It’s true, you know. In space, no one can hear you scream like a little girl.”
“I won’t say she was silly, but I think one of us was silly, and it wasn’t me!”
“If you have a best friend you can laugh with and a few good songs, you’re more than halfway there.”
“Would you rather be great at something you like, or just okay at something you love?”
“Mr. Moony presents his compliments to Professor Snape, and begs him to keep his abnormally large nose out of other people’s business.
Mr. Prongs agrees with Mr. Moony, and would like to add that Professor Snape is an ugly git.
Mr. Padfoot would like to register his astonishment that an idiot like that ever became a professor.
Mr. Wormtail bids Professor Snape good day, and advises him to wash his hair, the slimeball.”
“You who so plod amid serious things that you feel it shame to give yourself up even for a few short moments to mirth and joyousness in the land of Fancy; you who think that life hath not to do with innocent laughter that can harm no one; these pages are not for you.”
What are some of your favorite book quotes? I’d love to hear them!
Fabulous list! I adore that “Wives & Daughters” quote and of course, anything Austen = fabulous. Great to see the “True Love” novella on her as well. I remember really enjoying most of the stories inside. :)
Glad you enjoy both Austen and Gaskell :) they have so many great quotes between the two of them.
Great picks! I also have a quote from The Martian on mine, and you can never go wrong with Harry Potter.
Check out my TTT.
I love the quote from Mara Dyer! It’s so powerful! :-) Great list!
Thanks! It is really powerful.
Lovely selection of quotes! That quote you chose from Persuasion always breaks my heart, and I love your choice of quote from The Martian–I totally forgot about that one, I remember laughing out loud when I first read that :D Oh man, I really need to re-read Wives and Daughters one of these days xD
My TTT
I knew you’d like the Persuasion one :) and Wives and Daughters has an interesting selection of quotes! I went with a funnier one, but there were some more serious ones I hesitated on, too.
I used the same The Martian quote! I love it it’s brilliant! These are great quotes :)
Thanks! Glad you liked that quote from The Martian, too :) there were so many good ones to pick from.
I know Mark is so quoteable!!
The first quote though… :'( I’ve seen that The Martian quote from various blogs already! :)

I know…its heartbreakingly beautiful. And I could have quoted half the Martian here! So many funny lines.
Haha, I love that quote from Wives and Daughters. Great list!
I know, right?! The Squire is hilarious :)
You’ve read some amazing books this year!

I love all of these quotes so much. Open Road Summer is one of my favorite novels from this year, especially!I also really adore that Harry Potter quote you chose :)
Here’s my TTT!!!
Thanks! I highlighted several quotes from Open Road Summer when I finally read it last week. And that HP quote never fails to make me laugh out loud :) I love the sass.
I love all of the classics here! I really want to read Persuasion but haven’t found the time to read it yet.
Classics is my go-to genre! They never get old for me :) Persuasion especially!! I hope when you get to reading it you love it as much as I do.
Great choices! I really love the Mara Dyer quote you put. It’s one of my favorite books! :D
Thanks! When I read Mara Dyer, that quote stuck with me for weeks. I would recite it to myself whenever I was anxious or afraid of something and it helped :)
That’s such a good idea, actually, I think I might steal it from you, if you don’t mind :)
Not at all :) I hope it helps you, too!
I really liked this one “All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does, and that is his.”
Great list!
My TTT.
Me too! I know I’m definitely turning into my mother haha
such great picks!!! Several of them made me smile :) My TTT
Glad to hear it!
Ooo I love your choices, wonderful list. The Importance of Being Earnest is so quotable, but that’s Oscar Wilde for you I guess. :P Your post has just reminded me how much I adore Persuasion – a much-needed re-read is on the cards in the future methinks! (My List)
Wilde and Austen are both very quotable :) I just reread Persuasion this summer & I don’t need to tell you how good it is! I love Anne Elliot.
The fact we’re still quoting them to this day says a lot :) I really do need to give it a re-read, it’s just so heartbreaking and wonderful.
Those are the best adjectives to describe it :)
I had trouble picking just one from The Martian too. :) These are some excellent choices. I love that one from Gaskell! And the last one. :)
The quote from Wives and Daughters always makes me laugh and the Robin Hood one fits the book so perfectly :)
I LOVE the Mara Dyer series!! Great quote from it too. Mmmm Noah ;)
My TTT- http://rachelwritesthings.blogspot.com/2015/11/top-ten-quotes-i-loved-from-books-i.html
“Mmmm Noah” indeed :)
I do love that quote from Persuasion; so heart-breaking! And I need to re-read The Importance of Being Earnest; such a great play!
It is! I love comedies about disguises :)
I like the “first man to climb that hill, first man to kick that rock,” haha
Hahaha yes :) and how he calls himself a space pirate.
That Wives and Daughters quote is a favorite in my family! :) And yes! There are too many good Importance of Being Ernest quotes! I chose a different one than you did but I love yours too. :)

I love that your whole family enjoys the W&D quote :)
Great quotes! I’ve highlighted so many great quotes I’ve read this year, but none are popping to mind right now. Jane Austen has produced so many wonderful phrases and descriptions.
I always have to write them down somewhere else (usually as a note in my phone) and look through them later.
I knew you’d like the Persuasion quote :) It’s probably my favorite one. I love those tragic quotes.
